The 275 acre Danforth Farm has been in the same family for seven generations. Presently the dairy raises Jersey cows and produces butter.  The land trust used funds from a NY State Dep't. of Agriculture and Markets Farmland Protection Implementation Grant to purchase an agricultural conservation easement on the farm.

The easement will encourage continued farming and keep the land available for agricultural use in perpetuity.  The grant provides the landowner with resources to help continue the operation of this historic Century Farm.

Under the terms of the easement, the property must remain as open space, except for improvements related to agriculture.  The easement will be binding on any future owners or heirs and the land trust will monitor the property annually to ensure compliance with terms of the agreement.  We hope to utilize similar grants for farmland protection in the future.
